This is where I put the plants that actually work along the monarch’s migration path — the Flyway and the Highway both, running through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. I grow and test mine in South Texas heat, which means if it survives here, it’ll likely hold up for you too, wherever you land on that same route. Some have names in Spanish, some have names ranchers still use that you won’t find in a garden catalog. If it’s in this category, I’ve had dirt under my nails from it.
Start small. Start where you are. No perfect required.
