to the ground.
Live lighter on it.
Practical guides for people who want a simpler, healthier life starting in their own backyard. Native plants, less chemical, more wildlife, more connection. Written by a Texas Navy veteran who learned to work with the land instead of against it, and leave behind nothing but improvements.
"Over 10,000 native plants back into Texas soil. Half a million people reached every month. The voice turned out to be more powerful than the shovel. This is what that voice sounds like."
Real knowledge. No filter.

This is the plant that launched Tejas Prairie. Meet zizotes milkweed.
Before the community. Before the half million monthly readers. Before the research partnerships and the policy fights. There was this plant growing in the South Texas brush country that almost nobody was talking about. Zizotes milkweed is native here. It is what monarchs on the Texas flyway actually need. And almost no one was growing it. That gap is why Tejas Prairie exists. This is where it all started.

One woman. One mission.
A lot of dirt under her nails.
I am Kimberly Juarez, a Navy veteran, native seed grower, and the founder of Tejas Prairie in Kingsville, Texas. I started Tejas Prairie in 2022 after leaving a large commercial grower because something was missing. I was not building prairies. I was not leaving anything better than I found it.
Over five years, I put more than 10,000 native plants back into Texas soil. Homeowners started converting their lawns. Ranchers started looking at their land differently. A community of people who care about what grows here started showing up.
Then the USDA grants that were supposed to help small native plant farms like mine were defunded in 2025. My research, conducted in partnership with federal agencies since 2023, was labeled a DEI initiative and shut down. The funding disappeared. The filter disappeared with it.
What I discovered somewhere in all of it: my voice is more powerful than my shovel. The prairie is still alive. The land is still here. And so am I. Dirt Simple Living is where I put that voice to work, without apology and without a political filter.
